I agree, but i did it routinely with my 95 3500 ram empty or fully loaded at 17,500-23,500 for the fuel mileage. I hauled boats all over the east coast and southern part of the US never had any issues it kicked off once on Mount Eagle scaired the s--t outta me but all was good just never used it on mount eagle anymore.
I used overdrive all the time on my 06 F350 with the 6.0 I would only tow less then 8000 lbs. I sold the truck with 90,000 mi on it the transmission was one of the few parts that I never had issues with.
