Hello,

I have a 2010 F350 Super Duty with a 6.4L diesel motor. I just recently experienced two instances where my truck randomly shut down while driving. When it happened, I had been driving it for about 15 to 20 minutes or so, and when the engine shut down, the oil light illuminated immediately. The first time it happened, I happen to be entering a shopping mall and I was able to coast in and park. The second time I was picking my daughter up from daycare and I had to pull of to the side of the road in the middle of heavy traffic and park. Both times I was able to get it to restart the engine again after letting it sit for about 2 hours or so.

I have done some extensive reading on what it may be and at the point I desperately need some professional guidance on what to look for. I have reason to believe it’s related to oil pressure or maybe a temperature senor of some kind. I just purchased the AutoEnginuity with Ford Enhanced package and have been doing what I can to read failure codes and watch various system monitoring. Any guidance on diagnosing this problem at this point would be greatly appreciated.

Hello. Yes, I can hear it with the key in the ignition. Just as a note, the ford dealership just replaced the high pressure fuel pump, which was very expensive. And like I said, it will start again just fine after I let it motor cool for a while.

Definitely sounds like your oil psi sensor/switch I don’t remember exactly where it is on the 6.4 but if you disconnect it and look inside if there’s oil that’s a good sign it’s the cause of the problem and considering you can only start after the engine has cooled down I’d say that’s what you’re looking for next time you have it at operating temp monitor your oil psi switch/ sensor fuel sensor crank cam sensors and coolant temp sensors once it’s nice and hot you may see one of the reading go either way high or show a negative reading
