Seems this forum has been quiet for a couple years, but I need some input. I've kept the miles low on my truck 102,000, but it has been leaking coolant for along time, I keep replacing it. I had the EGR cooler replaced with the bullet proof in 2014. Ford dealership says they think the leak is in the head gasget and it's needs an "engine overhaul", which is $8500. I have been told that ford put substandard bolts on the engine when it was manufactured, which when it gets very hot, the bolts give way and allow for coolant to seep into the engine block. So I guess the overhaul is to put on new better stronger bolts. I live in Northern Virginia, any recommendations for good diesel mechanic in this area? I'm not sure it's worth putting $8500 into a 16yo truck. However the interior looks new and everything else seems to run quite well.
