Default stalling and loss of power issue

hello Im a new user but im hoping somebody out there can give me anything I can go off of. I have an 04 gmc sierra 2500hd ive had it for a little over 6 years and the problem ive been having has been going on for about a year and a half but is continuing to get worse and worse. if I leave my truck sitting over night when I go out in the morning to start it up it will crank up and run for about 30 secs or so then stalls out and will not start back up until I get out and prime the fuel filter 15 or 20 times then itll start back up and run all day no problem. so ive changed the fuel filter about 7 times and still the problem continues. ive checked under the truck to see if I was having a fuel leakage somewhere and no diesel is present anywhere even with cardboard anywhere. but ive noticed that if I park the truck with the engine sitting upward on a hill the problem happened every day but no so often with the eng pointing down hill. this makes me think that the fuel in my line and filter is draining back into the tank and when I start the truck the truck just burns the fuel out of the filter and then stalls. also when driving if im not driving like a butthole just doing 50 or so the truck seems to be fine but if im accelerating quickly like to get on the interstate if wants to hesitate the rmps will rise but the truck wont get up and go until I back off the pedal then It will but only slowly. I think I have an idea of whats wrong but was hoping anybody else out there could give any advice or a better idea sorry for the long rant please help...
