Transmission engagement delay?

Hi... I'm a new truck owner. I have a 2008 RAM with 6.7L Cummins. I have had the truck for a month and it only has 29K on the clock. I need help in determining if this is a problem or normal for these trucks....

It has an automatic transmission and is 2WD. When I go into reverse, it seems as if there is a delay before it engages into reverse. On 2 or 3 occasions, it went into neutral and I had to toggle the selector to drive and back to go into reverse.

Problem or normal behavior fellow Diesel truck enthusiasts? Thank you!

Hmm... Not really sure I would have to e in the truck to understand whats going on. I would do a usual service to the transmission like looking at the fluid? and then scanning the truck for codes.

The fluid should be clean and not smell burnt. if it looks like strawberry milk you have clutch material in the ATF. If it's Brown then something else is a miss.

You might be seeing the preliminary signs of some serious tranni problems.
Sounds like the valve body is starting to stick.

Hopefully a thorough tranni flush with new fluid and filters will correct it.
